The Principal of Horizon International Oceanarium Development Group has been responsible for the exhibit design and theming of several international aquarium projects over the past 20 years. The following projects represent the range of quality aquarium and exhibition design undertaken by the company's Managing Director and Principal Consultant, Glenn Tonges.

Discovery World Aquarium Sochi

Russian Federation, 2009

Horizon International was contracted to provide full turnkey services from aquarium master planning, concept and developed design, LSS fabrication, supply and installation of all ASW, fish supply, ASW project management, operations management and staff training.

"Tree of Life"

Bucheon, South Korea, 2007

In his capacity as Principal Design Consultant to Natureworks Pty. Ltd. Australia, Glenn Tonges, project directed the design, fabrication, supply and installation of the Tree of Life. The Tree of Life is the largest indoor artificial tree built to date and is installed in the central atrium of the Sopoong Shopping Mall, Bucheon, Seoul, South Korea. The tree weighs 30 tonnes and is 32m high over 5 shopping levels. The tree includes 12 primary branches weighing an average of 1800kg each.

The Palm Jumeirah

This project is the first of the land-reclamation projects on such an extraordinary scale worldwide. As a founding member and Managing Director of Global Theming Group Pty. Ltd., Glenn Tonges was responsible for managing the deployment of personnel to undertake various scopes of works including:

    • Manage the Tube River & Pools Package ("Aquaventure", a 42 acre water park with over two kilomeres of rides, slides, waves and rapids and 11,500m3 (tonnes) of water).
    • Assemble drawings relevant to the scope of the package
    • Provide Specialist Requirements applicable to large gunite and shotcrete projects in the Dubai climate.
    • Co-ordinate & Interface between Package and Concrete Structure, Infrastructure, MEP (Pipework, Lighting, Process), Theming (including Substrate for Theming).
    • Quality Control & Quality Assurance responsibilities

Moscow Ocean Park

Russian Federation, 2006

Horizon International was contracted to Asiocean International Co. Ltd. (China) to undertake the theming, exhibition design and ASW design for the LSS, artificial scenery and acrylic scheduling and specifications.

Incheon Aquarium

South Korea, 2006

Horizon International was contracted to Asiocean International Co. Ltd. (China) to undertake the LSS design revision. The project has since been deferred by the developers.

Shanghai Ocean Aquarium

Hualien Ocean Park

Aquarium theming and exhibit concept design by Glenn Tonges as Principal Design Consultant to Living Ocean International.

The Aquarium formed part of the larger THEME PARK tourist development and included a marine mammal stadium for dolphins, seals, sea lions and whales.

The Aquarium Theme includes hands-on interactive exhibits as part of the Aquarium displays.

As head of Exhibit Design and Content, Glenn Tonges, was responsible for advising Architects Ellick & Partners Pty Ltd on the Aquarium theming, visitor journey throughout the Aquarium , exhibit concept design, livestock sourcing, pre-opening temporary fish quarantine design and installation, and life support system design for the ground floor Living Ocean display zone for this project.
